Hello! Thank you for your interest in the Kevin’s Hobby Shop Pokemon TCG League. This page contains information and FAQs about the League for participants and parents of participants. If there is something you have a question about that isn’t covered here, please do feel free to reach out and we’ll do our best to help you.
General
A Pokemon League is a casual way to enjoy the hobby of collecting and playing the Pokemon TCG. Currently it is free of charge, though the shop is small so registration each week is encouraged.
Kevin’s Hobby Shop Pokemon League is all ages, but all participants are expected to either be capable of reading and playing the Pokemon TCG on their own, or be accompanied by someone who can assist them. While there will be staff on hand to answer questions, they won’t always be able to fully teach the game. If you’re interested in learning, feel free to reach out and we can make sure there is time and materials ready to help.
Play! Pokemon Player ID
A Pokemon.com account and Play! Pokemon Player ID are required to participate. You can get a Pokemon.com account on that site, and a Play! Pokemon Player ID can either be acquired in the Play! Pokemon settings section of your Pokemon.com account page, or one will be assigned to you at your first event. You’ll then need to go to Pokemon.com and enter the ID into your account page.
If you are under 13, or are an adult that would like to make an account for your child, you’ll first need to make a Pokemon.com account for yourself, and then you can make an account for your child. The link to make a child account can be found on your account settings page on Pokemon.com if you’re logged in.
If you have any questions or would like any help please do reach out. The Player ID system can be a little confusing at first, but we’d be happy to help.
Trading
Trading is allowed and encouraged! However, to keep things fair, all trades involving anyone under the age of 13 must be approved of by a member of the staff.
League Challenges
League Challenges are meant to be the first step towards more competitive play. You can earn Championship Points, and can also expect more serious competition and rules enforcement than you’d find at normal League play. More information can be found on the Pokemon website.
